It wasn’t until I experienced Peanut Butter & Co.’s products that I understood the magical things that can be done with peanut butter. To me, Peanut Butter & Co. is the Dumbledore of the peanut butter world — a fantastic, amazing wizard unafraid to push the peanut to its limits, and my first introduction to the incredible world of non-traditional peanut butters. (Well, technically, Hagrid was the first one to introduce Harry to the world of wizardry. But Hagrid wasn’t well-known for his magical prowess. So, the analogy wouldn’t work. I digress.)
Peanut Butter & Co.’s White Chocolate Wonderful is a peanut butter that I enjoyed many times over the years. While a lot of companies have rolled out their versions of the peanut butter and chocolate combination, Peanut Butter and Co. was one of the first manufacturers that I saw experiment with white chocolate. Although I enjoy white chocolate, I prefer dark, and I’d give a slight edge to milk chocolate over white unless I’m in the mood for something really sweet. For instance, I used to prefer white mochas to regular mochas, but the pendulum swung in the other direction several years ago and has remained there ever since. Yes, this pendulum defies gravity.
My preference for dark and milk chocolate might come as a surprise to those that know me well, as I’m known to have a HUGE sweet tooth. But, sometimes when choosing a non-traditional peanut butter, I don’t want something too sweet, especially if it’s a peanut butter that I’ll be using in a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. That’s the thing, though. Peanut Butter & Co.’s White Chocolate Wonderful has the perfect amount of sweetness for a peanut butter and chocolate combination. Somehow, the wonderful people at Peanut Butter & Co. used just the right amount of cocoa butter and vanilla to achieve a nice balance. You can definitely taste the white chocolate, but it doesn’t overpower the peanut butter and can be enjoyed both as a sweet treat and as a part of your lunch in a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The yin and yang balance between the peanut butter and the white chocolate leads to a jack-of-all-trades peanut butter. Also, depending on the use, you can either really taste the white chocolate, or the taste can be subtle. I’ve had it on my cinnamon raisin bagel for breakfast (highly recommended!), on a slice of toast, used it to bake peanut butter cookies, and, of course, enjoyed it straight out of the jar with knife, spoon, and finger dips. In some situations, such as on a cinnamon raisin bagel, the white chocolate taste is more pronounced, but still incredibly enjoyable. In others, such as when I used White Chocolate Wonderful to bake peanut butter cookies, the white chocolate flavor was a little more subdued.
In terms of texture and spreadability, there isn’t anything particularly noteworthy about Peanut Butter & Co.’s White Chocolate Wonderful, which is a good thing. It spreads just as easily as your traditional creamy peanut butter and has a familiar, smooth texture when sliding across your taste buds.
