The Test, Vol. 3: Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich ft. Jif’s Peanut Butter & Naturally Flavored Cinnamon Spread

I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to get this review posted tonight, but I was inspired by this fun story on ESPN about the NBA’s love for PB&J’s.  The story also had me craving a  peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and I was curious to see how Jif’s Peanut Butter & Naturally Flavored Cinnamon Spread would fare when combined with my red raspberry preserves between two soft slices of Market Pantry bread.

Those corners, though.

Before I get to the review of the sandwich, I owe it to Jif to hammer home just how wonderful their Peanut Butter & Naturally Flavored Cinnamon Spread smells.  This was something I touched on yesterday in my review of the Peanut Butter Cup Coconut Granola.  The delightful aroma blasts from the jar as soon as you remove the lid, and you find yourself standing there for a few seconds (eyes closed, of course) taking in the wonderful blend of cinnamon and spices.  I almost forgot my purpose — to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich — but I came to, reminded myself that I’m a professional, and returned to the task at hand.

Art, in a sandwich.

On the young-but-developing peanut butter sweetness spectrum, the sandwich fits right between Reginald’s Homemade Bourbon Pecan Peanut Butter (more savory) and Peanut Butter & Co.’s White Chocolate Wonderful (on the sweeter side).  I was expecting the sandwich to be closer to White Chocolate Wonderful in terms of sweetness, but there is a nice blend between cinnamon and the other spices present in the peanut butter.  Also, the peanut butter wasn’t too sweet when paired with the red raspberry preserves, which made this sandwich perfectly suitable for a meal.  (Still need your chips, though.)  After eating this sandwich, I could picture myself using Jif’s Peanut Butter & Naturally Flavored Cinnamon Spread in a dinner recipe where you wouldn’t want a peanut butter that was too sweet but still wanted a hint of sweetness and other spices.  Lastly, in terms of texture, the peanut butter had the same creamy smoothness as it did when I tasted it straight out of the jar, and it also didn’t detract from one of my favorite characteristics of preserves: those seeds!
