A Day at the Ballpark: Review of Justin’s Honey Peanut Butter Blend

This review marks a momentous occasion in my life: my first taste of Justin’s peanut butter.  For years, I walked past Justin’s products at the grocery store and various grocery aisles, but I always went with what’s familiar.  Despite my intrigue, I’d end up buying a traditional peanut butter or, if I was feeling fancy (i.e., I’d just gotten off work and was still wearing a dress shirt), I’d buy something from Peanut Butter & Co.  I’m a creature of habit, so it was always easier for me to go with what’s familiar.  However, I decided to stop being so shy.  It was time to muster up the courage and ask out the pretty girl I had been creepily leering at from across the room for the past couple of years.  (In this analogy, the “pretty girl” is Justin’s Honey Peanut Butter Blend, and “mustering up the courage” is forking up a few extra bucks for some gourmet peanut butter.  The “creepily leering” part perfectly characterizes how I would stare at Justin’s peanut butter, so that remains constant.)

The peanut butter, after a bit of stirring.  Gotta put in that work!

As with each peanut butter review, there are two main aspects that I’ll touch on: taste and texture.  (Sometimes, when the peanut butter’s smell is noteworthy, I’ll touch on this characteristic as well, as I did in my reviews of Reginald’s Homemade Bourbon Pecan Peanut Butter and Jif’s Peanut Butter & Naturally Flavored Cinnamon Spread.)  With Justin’s Honey Peanut Butter Blend, I have to start with the taste, because this is absolutely one of the best peanut butter’s I’ve ever tasted.  Growing up, I loved honey roasted peanuts, especially those that came in the peanut skin.  The roasted flavor made it feel like you were sitting in the stands watching professional baseball or playing in a little league game, cracking open a peanut shell and popping peanut after peanut.  (As a side note, is there anything better than cracking open a shell with THREE peanuts inside?!  No, there isn’t.)  The honey flavor gives you that sweetness you desired of every food you ate as a kid.  (Or was that just me?)  Justin’s Honey Peanut Butter Blend perfectly encapsulates those flavors in one perfect peanut butter.  You can taste the peanut skins and roasted peanuts in each bite, and the honey flavor isn’t faint.  Rather, the honey plays a prominent role in the peanut butter’s delicious taste.  When I first tried Justin’s Honey Peanut Butter Blend, I felt like I was 11 years old again, taking in a baseball game with my dad at Oakland Coliseum.  Any peanut butter that gives you that type of nostalgia is worth the price of admission.

Obligatory knife-dip shot.

While the taste was perfect, the texture left a little to be desired.  Once mixed, the peanut butter was nice and creamy.  However, each bite was a little too grainy for me.  Others might not mind the graininess as much, as the texture wasn’t particularly rough.  It just wasn’t as smooth as I prefer my creamy peanut butters to be.

The facts.

Overall, the Justin’s Honey Peanut Butter Blend’s amazing taste more than overshadows any reservations I have about its texture.  The texture isn’t off-putting, just not as smooth as I prefer.  But, if you’re as much of a fan of honey roasted peanuts as I am, then you absolutely have to try this peanut butter!

Have you tried Justin’s Honey Peanut Butter Blend, or any of Justin’s other products?  Do you have a recommendation for my next peanut butter review?  Do you have any tips for stirring natural peanut butter?  Leave a comment below!
